Okay, I can see the wrinkles appearing on your forehead ! After all who am I to comment on womens wear ?
But this post is the result of some real thought that has gone in my mind, after I heard more than a handful of my classmates using the word "terrorist" to describe one of my teachers who chooses to wear a scarf along with a full-sleeve blouse.
As I have felt before, the word "Terrorist" is being used by the media and the ignorant public to describe anything that is related to Islamic culture and way of living !
My friend chose to forget why he actually liked teachers who wore clothes that could not be described as the most-decent and hated this lady who chose to add a scarf to her attire. The two different treatments handed out to the two types of people were not surely caused by their academic abilities.
My friends might not have actually intended to hurt anybody, but I happened to hear it and felt bad about it, just like any other Muslim would have. But past experiences have taught me better - It is not sensible to argue because you are also bound to be labeled "Terrorist" .
So are my friends really frightened of a piece of cloth ?
Whether you react directly or not, please don't stop blogging about it. Most people don't realize that they are being callous when they make statements like all Muslims are terrorists, but once you point this out, there is hope that they will see reason.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just sad when people exhibit a lack of respect (or even tolerance) for others beliefs, it's also very shameful and disheartening.
I don't know of any religion that allows people to deride other religions nor do I know of any respectable people who would do it.
What I learned from my religion is that it tells me to respect other's beliefs, whether you like it or not. The Holy Quran tells prophet Muhammad to let people follow their religion. It tells "Your religion for you, and theirs for them"
ReplyDeleteThe most disappointing thing is that most people don't even care to learn about Islam before they accuse it of being intolerant. They get their ideas from the media, which i must say is making a feast out of any incident involving a Muslim even if it is a case of his/her car losing control and hitting somebody.
Thanks for your comment, it is really good to know people do listen to you.
