A shoe thrown at US foreign policy

George W Bush is about to get the boot, or should we say he already got it in November ? Anyway, repeating a cliche is one thing, but the President of the United States literally getting the boot from an Iraqi is  quite another thing. It naturally was front-page news the world over.

Muntazar al-Zeid  aimed his shoe at the US foreign policy and its failure in Iraq. President Bush was able to duck both times, but the US cannot duck.
If Barack Obama had any doubts about how tough his job was going to be, he would not have any after seeing the footage on television. If he still had a miniscule of doubt, the translated version of what Muntazar said should remove them.

This is a gift from the Iraqis, this is the farewell kiss, you dog

The aftermath of the incident make interesting reading. Here is my little list :

  1. Al-Zeid, is in custody in the US controlled Green Zone of Baghdadh. He will reportedly be sentenced to 7  years in prison for 'insulting a foreign head-of-state'.
  2. The Al-Baghdadhia channel reporter is allegedly being tortured by the US Army. No surprises there.
  3. Meanwhile, the Arab public opinion is in support of his actions. Read this page
  4. Brit Alex Tew of the milliondollarhomapage.com fame has created a new Flash Game where the players aim to bring Bush down by throwing shoes at him.
  5. Here is yet another Flash Game. Just look at teh count of hits on Bush. Thais guy is truly popular.
  6. The shoe-throwing incident's video is at 11th position in Youtube's most watched videos.
  7. Within 24 hours, 300 groups (about 246 in Arabic and 66 in English) and 276 fan pages were created on   Facebook hailing and supporting the Iraqi reporter
  8. A man in Bangalore is arrested for suspected terrorist links after he applauded the shoe incident. Where is the War on Terror going ?
