I have had my own experience -there was this guy in my class who in the middle of an extremely boring Measurement Lab session turned towards me and asked "Hey Sadique, why do you think so many Muslims become terrorists ?". I was left speechless for one moment but the insult that I felt made me face him head on and I told him about what I think is really happening and how the the incidents get amplified by the media to grow a perception among people that Muslims are bad and bang !, he started a tirade about how many innocent people the Muslim terrorists kill each year and how this number was more than what Hitler killed..........
But I want to point out how meaningless this argument really is.
I am a Muslim and I believe from what I have learned of my religion that it , like any other religion in this world teaches its followers to respect other people's religions and to live in harmony with them.
But the things turn ugly when certain people who think that their religion is superior to others and who cannot live in harmony with followers of other religions and who cannot take part in healthy intellectual debates take up arms against followers of another religion. The resulting chaos that such people cause is the same irrespective of the religion they endorse.
So next time you feel like calling somebody a terrorist just because of the religion he follows , please think a second time !
Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

ReplyDeleteSalaam 'alaikum.
Nice idea; seems unlikely to happen, though, insha'allah.
what do you think is unlikely to happen ? a person calling somebody a terrorist or a person thinking twice before doing so ?
ReplyDeleteA person thinking twice before doing so. I think most people will call someone a terrorist without giving any real thought to what they're saying or the ramifications. Read this story (by a Jewish guy) and you'll see what I mean.il
ReplyDeletedidnt know something like tht happened.. really sad..
ReplyDeletegood start to blogging.. xpecting more enlightening posts like those..
Good one.
ReplyDeleteNice to see that you spoke meaningfully with reason rather than the usual issual of a vehement counter-tirade. Owing to the sensitivity of the issue, people always abstain from speaking/debating on issues like this.
Be it war or issues concerning terrorism, it's sad to notice that the worst sufferers are always the underserving ones.
....Wish more students shared your kind of thinking....A great big pat on your back!!!
ReplyDeletenice post!!!!!!!keep up the spirit
